Schedule of Hikes

Week One (Week of July 5th-9th)

Hike: Pine Cobble - North Adams, MA

We will start at the Greylock Community Club on State Road and follow the AT north, over the footbridge and along the Brook. Along the good weather section of the trail it gets rocky and steep, but we will soon be rewarded with an expansive view of Williamstown and Vermont. Approaching the Pine Cobble lookout flowering Laurel and low-bush blueberries line the trail. The bad weather trial will loop us back to the AT and send us on our way back to the waiting van.

Week Two (Week of July 12th-16th)

Hike: Snow Hole - Pownal, VT

We'll start from the Petersburg Pass in NY and hike north along the Taconic Crest Trail to the locally-famous Snow Hole. This chilly crevice will hopefully reward us with the thrill of late melting snow. On our return, we will follow the Birch Brook Trail to the familiar Upper and Lower Loop Trails of Hopkins Memorial Forest in Williamstown, MA.

Week Three (Week of July 26th-30th)

Hike: Savoy State Forest - Savoy, MA

This hike will cover several notable points of interest within the Savoy State Forest, including Spruce Hill, Tannery Falls and Lost Pond. Spruce Hill is a rocky outcrop amidst the western side of the Hoosac Range which provides spectacular views of North Adams and Mt. Greylock to the west. Tannery Falls is situated at the convergence of Ross and Tannery brooks, and is one of the most impressive waterfalls in the area.

Week Four (Week of August 2nd-6th)

Hike: Mt. Prospect - Williamstown, MA

The hike begins at Haley Farm and winds along the Money Brook Trail, ascending to the masked, cascading Money Brook Falls. We will pass the Wilbur's Clearing Shelter, then, hike a short portion of the AT to the Mt. Prospect Trail and view point. The Mt. Prospect trail makes a steep rocky decent back down to the Money Brook Trail to complete the loop.

Week Five (Week of August 16th-20th)

Hike: Raycroft Lookout - Monroe, MA

This week we will hike from the Dunbar Brook Trailhead in Monroe, MA to Raycroft Lookout following the Dunbar Brook and Spruce Hill Trails. In addition to stands of old growth hemlocks, this trail passes through stands of Spruce, Oak and Maple, over quartzite outcroppings, and provides numerous scenic views of the Deerfield River Valley below.

Week Six (Week of August 23rd-27th)

Hike: Stony Ledge - Williamstown, MA

This hike begins off Rockwell Road on the Jones' Nose Trail, one of the most scenic trailheads within the Mt. Greylock Reservation, and follows the CCC Dynamite Trail to the beginning of Sperry Road. This trail was used by the Civilian Conservation Corps to store dynamite during the construction of Rockwell Road during the 1930s, hence the name. We will then walk along Sperry road to have lunch at the magnificent Stony Ledge, while overlooking the Hopper. After lunch we descend the west side of Mt. Greylock via the Haley Farm Trail where we will be picked up at the end of Hopper Road in Williamstown.
