WAMC's In Our Backyard
Berkshire Hiking has contributed 8 audio hikes to Albany's NPR (National Public Radio). Mark Pavone is producing a segment called "In Our Backyard". It's a wonderful half hour show broadcast Monday nights at 8:30 p.m. (rebroadcast Saturday 1 p.m.) and focuses on interesting nature stories and environmental issues facing this region. The audio hikes are 3-4 minute segments that encourage folks to venture out and enjoy the places that are worth protecting. It's heard throughout parts of all 7 northeastern states (CT, MA, NH, NJ, NY, PA, VT) but not all NPR affiliates cover it so check the page to see if one is near you. But you can also listen to it live or archived via their website if you're out of range. www.wamc.org/inourbackyard.html . Hosted by Dr. Ward Stone, distinguished wildlife pathologist with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
